E-Tech Sponsors the RECHARGE™ 2024 Fitness Convention by Body & Soul® Fitness

July 24, 2024 - South Hackensack, NJ

E-Tech is proud to announce that it will be one of the sponsors for RECHARGE™ 2024 hosted by Body & Soul® Fitness. The convention will take place from October 3-6, 2024 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This annual event will feature top leaders in the fitness industry to educate and guide thousands on their fitness journey. Attendees will learn about new research in teaching techniques, industry trends and they will enjoy a weekend of refreshment surrounded by women with a common goal.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “too many adults are inactive, and inactivity levels differ notably by race and ethnicity.” Overall, in January 2020, Hispanics had the highest prevalence of physical inactivity (31.7%), followed by non-Hispanic blacks (30.3%) and non-Hispanic whites (23.4%). And over time, physical inactivity can increase your risk of obesity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and many cancers.

As Ethnic Technologies is painfully aware in its work with major healthcare companies, some ethnicities have higher rates of certain diseases that have been linked to physical inactivity. In 2018, the American Heart Association published two infographics that show mortality rates by race for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and stroke. Both infographics emphasized that Black adults have higher rates in both CVD and stroke, being 32% more likely to have CVD and 45% more likely to have a stroke. The CDC also published an article on heart disease facts, with a table showing the percentage of deaths caused by heart disease in 2021, listed by ethnicity, in which the Black population also had the highest rate of deaths, at 22%.

“As we move forward in a society that is more and more multicultural in nature, Body & Soul’s commitment to helping all people achieve better fitness and higher levels of physical activity and Ethnic Technologies desire to improve the health of all races and ethnicities are goals that work well together,” said Zack Wilhoit, CEO of E-Tech. E-Tech’s data-driven, multicultural software helps healthcare and wellness providers identify and reach out to all people that are most at risk.

E-Tech has worked to help people of all ethnic backgrounds and all faiths for more than 25 years.

Ethnic Technologies Coauthors American Academy of Management (AOM) Paper

“Personal Names and Human Resource Outcomes” is a quantitative paper which has been accepted for presentation at the 81st Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management, July 29 – August 4, 2021. The paper was submitted by Dr. Xiaoyu Huang of California State University, San Bernardino. Dr. Huang’s coauthors are Dr. Lihua Zhang of Renmin University of China and Mr. Zachary Wilhoit, CEO at Ethnic Technologies.

Using a sample of approximately 80% of California public sector employees (6,384,292 person-year observations) in 329 occupations in 582 organizations, the paper proposed and found empirical support for three distinct name related effects: (1) gender and racial signaling effect, (2) name similarity effect and (3) name-meaning effect.

“The research team outsourced the gender and ethnicity analysis to a leading consumer name analysis company (Ethnic Technologies LLC) in the United States. Ethnic Technologies analyzed the gender and ethnic compositions of California public sector employees using a proprietary algorithm (E-Tech) they have used commercially and continuously updated over the 23 years. It is one of the most advanced and accurate multi-source multicultural prediction algorithms in the market.”
— Dr. Huang, from "Personal Names and Human Resources Outcomes"Quote Source

The paper centers around McClelland’s human motivation theory, arguing that individuals’ personal names ignite implicit motivation. By analyzing the names of individuals in the California State University workforce, Ethnic Technologies’ team of linguists and data scientists applied E-Tech proprietary and granular multicultural data to reveal insight into how the meanings and origins of personal names relate to pay and obtaining managerial roles in professional workspaces.

Dr. Huang has an extensive educational background in Industrial Relations and Human Resources. Currently, she is an Associate Professor at California State University, San Bernardino. Dr. Huang has authored papers published in the International Journal of Human Resource Management and other publications.

Dr. Zhang is a Professor of Human Resource Management at Renmin University, one of the top five (5) universities in China. Her research is focused on transformational leadership, organizational change and cross-cultural management. Her research has been published in the journals Organization Science and Organizational Dynamics.

Ethnic Technologies is honored to have had the opportunity to work with Dr. Huang and Dr. Zhang.

Research and Data Initiatives

There were many initiatives for this year’s product release that centered around ethnicity and religion improvements and data validation. Ethnic Technologies also focused research into shared East Asian names in general and Korean names more specifically. This research is significant since East Asians are the fastest growing ethnic group in the US. Additionally, there was a deeper focus into growing religious group coverage, including a 16% increase in the Mormon faith. In terms of data validation, we have been able help our clients evaluate limitations and improve accuracy of their self-reported ethnic data through this research and technological advancements.
